are Powerful is both our name and our mission statement.
We are a diverse group of "managed care experts"
singularly dedicated to helping patients improve their
managed medical healthcare. We are a fully licensed 501
(c) 3 non-profit organization and exist only on the generous
financial donations of our visitors and sponsors.
We are physicians, nurses, office managers, HMO administrators,
legal advisors and advocates currently working in
today's managed care environment. Each of us has
developed relationships and maintains nearly daily communications
with many of today's top managed care organizations. We
have all come together at the Patients are Powerful.org
website to share our insights and provide patients' effective
tools and information to demand high quality healthcare
from their contracted HMOs. Empowered patients get better

Healthcare insurance companies have put profits before
patient care. Cost containment measures have limited
your ability to See a Specialist, Get a 2nd Opinion,
Receive High Quality Medications and have your Surgery
performed at your choice of institution. Additionally,
HMO's have in the past enjoyed little governmental over
site and have been difficult in patient-driven litigation.
Today the tide is turning on HMO's... patient outcry
is demanding change and requiring HMOs to be more accountable
for the care they provide. Several states have passed
laws granting more patient rights and many employer
groups are reviewing HMO complaints when deciding future
managed care contracts. Patients are Powerful welcomes
these changes and hopes to be a voice amid the new patient-focused
opportunities. We strongly believe that only through
empowered patients can we improve today's healthcare
delivery systems.
Patients are Powerful is operated by our talented Board
of Directors. We rely strongly on our advisory board
members who ensure we maintain our focus on our mission
of improving patient care.
