Medicine today is a complicated, often specialized business.
Doctors who practice specialist medicine are often more
educated and have more experience on the latest approaches
to treat your illness. If you have a heart condition…….You
need to see a Cardiologist. If you're suffering from major
mental illness…..You need to see a Psychiatrist and

state your desired action up front. HMO's often hold a
tight grip on referrals to specialist and your primary
care provider may be closely tracked on the number of
referral he/she produces. Some HMO's have report cards
for their member doctors, these reports can serve as evaluations
and in some cases the basis for year-end compensation,
if they keep their referrals within a pre-designed amount.
